The Winter Lights at Canary Wharf are back!
Canary Wharf is pretty spectacular on a normal night, but it’s currently even more impressive after dark, thanks to the return of the Winter Lights’ impressive art installations illuminating the London skyline in a spectacle of light, colour and movement.
Perfect for a dark winter’s evening, this show combines interactive structures, performance art and beautiful and inventive visual effects that use different forms of light technology to create a spectacle that all the family can enjoy.
Sustainability, recycling and the environment are all a common theme running through the installations. Many of the works have been created from reused materials, others send out a strong message about waste and climate change, and most are made with LED lighting in order to make them as energy-efficient and environmentally friendly as possible. Just wrap up, pack some snacks and take in the breathtaking lights.
When to go
The event is on from 15-26 January 2019, between 5pm and 10pm. Dress warmly because the light show is outdoors and is best seen after dark.
The lights are all around Canary Wharf – you can travel to Canary Wharf Tube station (Jubilee line), or to Canada Water on the DLR. Local buses stopping nearby include the D3, D7, D8, 135 and 277. For a fun alternative, make your way along the river in one of the Thames Clippers river buses. They leave Waterloo and Woolwich for Canary Wharf four times every hour.
Is there parking?
Canary Wharf has 2,500 parking spaces in public car parks.
Are there baby-changing facilities?
Toilets can be found in all the shopping malls at Canary Wharf and there are baby-changing facilities on Mall Level 1.
Where to eat
The area has an endless selection of different eateries to try. For a delicious burger on the go try Shake Shack at Street Level 0, the Park Pavillion. For a sit-down meal, the child-friendly menu at Pizza Express in Cabot Place is perfect.
