Learn to fly a helicopter over London
Mini fans of flight will delight in a visit to the London Elstree Aerodrome. Planespotters of all ages can gaze at private and light aircraft taking off and landing – there's even a cafe perfectly situated with up-close access to the runway.
Kidadler Emma has a great day out at the Elstree Aerodrome. She says, "Essentially it's a small embankment where the little ones can watch small planes & helicopters take off and land. My kids (two and five) loved it – spotting the colours of the planes and how high they were going. It's FREE. There is a very cute cafe on site. Nothing fancy, but kids ate well. Parking on site and clean toilets too. Spent about an hour plane spotting then had lunch."
And another thumbs up comes from Kidadler Kate. She says, "We love it there (my son loves planes though) but even if you're not a plane lover it is fun watching them take off and landing, as well as the helicopters. Plus, it is free! There is also a restaurant there which does great food at very reasonable prices. Maybe a half day more than a whole day though."
