Visit Charles Dickens' favourite holiday spot! Full of seaside charm, Broadstairs boasts quaint fisherman's cottages, gloriously golden sands, retro ice-cream parlours, a tidal pool, Kent Surf School and a clifftop promenade, making it a fab spot for family fun.

Kids will delight in splishing and splashing around on the sandy beach; and don't forget to pack a bucket and spade or a beach ball for your little surf dudes!

For a little more action, head over to nearby Joss Bay where you can learn how to surf with experienced instructors. Alternatively, for any budding literature enthusiasts - discover oodles of Charles Dickens’ memorabilia at the Dickens House Museum and visit his holiday home at Bleak House. We promise the day will be anything but!

We did a day trip to Broadstairs last Friday and just wanted to say it was great! The fast train from King's Cross took us there in 1h 25 mins then the beach was about 15 mins walk from the train station. If you go left along the beach the road slopes down and you avoid any steps and there is a wooden boardwalk onto the beach so pretty easy for buggy access. We had a lovely day out and it was very quiet as not a weekend / school holiday yet. The train tickets at rush hour were eye wateringly expensive so not sure if they could be pre booked in advance. Also watch out for seagulls stealing your lunch on the beach as they were terrorising anyone who was eating and are quite intimidating for little ones.

Sandy beach with the usual British seaside bits. Kids loved the sand. My hubby laid out £2.00 for a deckchair for me to lounge on. We were very lucky to get a brilliant parking space next to the lift down to the beach.

Such an easy trip from London. 1h25 from St Pancras then 5 min walk down the high street to the sandy beach. Kids’ roundabout, bouncy castle and swing boats on beach. Gently sloping beach for great swimming with lifeguards. Punch & Judy shows on the beach in the summer. What more could you want?
