Essex Wildlife Trust

A leading conservation charity, the Essex Wildlife Trust aims to protect the wildlife in the county through education on the nature reserves, landscape conservation and through campaigns. The trust was founded in 1959 by volunteers, and it currently has over 37,000 members, protects over 8,400 acres of land over two nature parks and 87 nature reserves and manages 11 visitor centres.

Essex Wildlife Trust reserves locations include Abberton Reservoir Visitor Centre, Abbots Hall Farm, Chafford Gorges Nature Park, Cranham Marsh Nature Reserve, Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre, Maldon Wick Nature Reserve, Shadwell Wood Nature Reserve and Thorndon Countryside Centre located in Thorndon Country Park.

There are also four themed trails run by the Essex Wildlife Trust. You can search for well-known characters from The Wind in the Willows at Hannington Reservoir, Brambly Hedge at Abberton Reservoir, and from The Gruffalo at Thorndon and Peter Rabbit at Langdon.

The Trust also runs exciting wildlife-themed activities and events across Essex to help children and adults learn through nature and engage with their local wildlife.
