Learn To Play The Ukulele With First Chord Music School

this event has no time specified

What to expect

Do your children love music? Would they like to learn another musical instrument that they have never tried before? The First Chord Music School are spreading the joy and teaching the ukulele on Facebook live. Whether you’ve played ukuele a bit, or never ever played before, Finn and Sophie, help you get the basics down. The duo, who run ukulele groups for kids and adults, will teach you and your wannabe musicians to play easy ukulele songs. This brilliant session where you can learn popular songs from your own home is open to everyone of all ages.

You'll learn about all the uke lingo and even start learning about using chords. The four ukulele chords you will start off with are A, C, F G. These four chords will be the beginning of your ukuele journey. You will firstly start to learn easy songs to play on the ukulele! Harry Belafonte's Banana Boat Song is one of the easiest ukulele songs there is to play because it uses just two lyrics and a simple strumming pattern. One of the best things about this lesson is that you'll learn familiar, popular songs, whether that's acoustic tunes from Jason Mraz, The Beatles and Vance Joy or unexpected upbeat tracks from Bruno Mars or Madonna!

So share your talents and spread some joy. Welcome to the wonderful world of the ukulele! If you interested in watching more gigs at home gigs, check out the Couch Concerts sessions, and if you prefer not to be a solo performer, why not enjoy a sing-along instead? Embrace your inner soul sister and join Emerson Waldorf School for a virtual sing-along.

What you’ll need

  • A ukulele, of course! See if you can borrow one... you’d be surprised how many people have a random ukulele kicking about in their family. If you want to grab one online, be careful because according to Finn and Sophie there are lots of rip off uses that don’t really work as instruments. They recommend Tiger ukes as they are very affordable and actually do the trick. They can cost between £25 and £65 (and upwards if you're fancy).
  • A love of music.
  • A room to practise.

What you’ll do

  • The classes are live on Facebook every Friday from 1pm-2pm.
  • Finn and Sophie from First Chord Music School are teaching beginner ukulele lessons. They will help you get the basics down and learn a few uke chords and will teach you to play a song with 2 uke parts.
