Matilda The Musical – now showing on the London stage
Rediscover the story of Matilda, a gifted child who faces, shall we say, less gifted adults!
“Matilda the Musical” embraces the beloved original story, but breathes new life into it, using songs and breathtaking effects. Fans of the film will love the famous “Amanda Thripp” scene!
Based on Roald Dahl’s popular novel, your kids will relate to Matilda’s childhood struggles (hopefully not too literally), while being astounded by the spectacular sets and witty songs, written by comedian Tim Minchin. This award-winning musical is on at the Cambridge Theatre in the heart of Theatreland, so head out for a meal beforehand and make a night of it.
There are some scary scenes, so the recommended age is 6 and over. Babes-in-arms are not admitted to the auditorium. Tickets start at £23.
When to go:
The show runs from 22nd January 2019 with multiple dates available. Running time is 2 hours, 40 minutes including an interval.
The nearest Tube station is Covent Garden, but it might be busy or even closed. We recommend getting the underground to nearby Leicester Square or Charing Cross – both around a five-minute walk away.
The Cambridge Theatre is fairly small, so you should get a good view from wherever you sit. Choose an aisle seat to see the cast up close as they run through the audience during the show.
Where to eat:
Carluccio’s, on 2 Garrick Street, serves family-friendly food with a kids’ menu.
Make a day of it by heading to nearby Covent Garden and enjoying the live shows in the Piazza, the bustling market and the fantastic London Transport Museum.
