Born in New Jersey, USA  Alice Paul was a feminist and part of the women's suffrage movement who led the protests to fight for women's right to vote in the US.

Alice Paul fought for gender equality during the twentieth century. Her greatest achievement was arguably the approval of the 19th Amendment in the US Constitution which disregards gender as a factor for the right to vote.

Alice Paul was from a wealthy family. She attended Swarthmore College for her and went on to complete her postgraduate studies at the New York School of Social Work.

To study social work further, she went to England where she participated in the women's suffrage movement, this helped her gain knowledge on protesting tactics. After returning to the US, she received her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.

She soon joined the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Later she decided to start her own party called the National Woman's Party.

Paul was crucial in conducting protests outside the White House, which had never been done before. The group were known as the Silent Sentinels.

Her relentless stance gained both support and opposition from others, but her protests continued even when the country was preparing for World War I. She was jailed multiple times during the protests and even went on hunger strike, resulting in being force fed via a tube.

Her unwavering determination for equality soon gained a lot of public and political support.

Finally, President Wilson gave in to the pressure from the Silent Sentinels and other campaigners and accepted their demands.

After this success, Alice formed the World Women's Party which was committed to bringing equality to women all around the world. Alice's commitment is a true inspiration to men and women alike which makes her one of the more important figures to learn from.
