With so many names to choose from, finding the perfect name for a new baby is by no means an easy task!

Traditional African Names are often influenced by a number of factors such as the time or day a baby is born, the families faith, naming after ancestors or the order of the child’s birth.

In Ghanaian culture and throughout West Africa, a child will automatically have a “day name” which is a given name corresponding to the day of the week that they are born.  So, a baby boy born on a Monday would be named Kojo and if he was born on a Thursday his name day name would be Yaw. It’s also very common for children to have several other given names as well as their “day name”.

We’ve scoured the internet in search of some of the best African boy names and have included the significant meanings and origins of each name to help you choose the perfect name for your precious new baby boy.
