Flapjacks are fibre-licious sweet treats that are not only simple to make but yummy to eat.

Flapjacks are an example of a traybake recipe, containing porridge oats, golden syrup and in this instance, chocolate chips too. Despite our sweet addition of chocolate into this recipe, there are so many recipes for flapjacks to try out, and you can modify the flapjacks recipe to really make it your own.

Ingredients You Will Need:

-225g of butter

-225g of demerara sugar

-75g of golden syrup

-275g of porridge oats

-100g of chocolate chips (if you can't get chocolate chips, try cutting a bar into smaller chunks with a knife)

-Traybake or oven baking tin

Method:

Making chocolate chip flapjack recipe

1.Pre-heat the oven to 160C/ Fan 140C.

2.Grease your baking tin with butter.

3.Put the butter, sugar and syrup in a large pan, and turn the heat on low to let the butter melt and the ingredients gradually combine.

4.Add the oats gradually and mix together. Let the mix cool before stirring in your chips.

5.Put the mixture into the greased tin and smooth down with a back of a spoon.

6.Put the tin into the oven for around 35 minutes and until it begins to turn a golden brown colour.

7.Take the tin out of the oven and leave to cool for around 10 minutes.

8.Mark even squares as you leave to cool and let the mix cool completely before serving. This will allow the mix to harden to give it that tasty crunch.

How To Store:

To get the best out of the shelf life, store in a cool, dry place, ideally in a cupboard or pantry. Keep in an airtight container. These should keep for around a week, so be sure to get stuck in straight away!

This is one of the recipes that as it stands, is reasonably straightforward and simple to make. However, there are ways to modify the recipes to really make it your own and to suit your family's tastebuds.

Why not add some toppings? Melted chocolate is always a winner! Just melt it and drizzle it on top of the traybake. It'll be sure to make for a fun decoration too! Different flavoured chips are also great. Try caramel, dark and white to add some variety into the recipes.

Remember for the best results, let the mixture harden and cool down first before drizzling after taking it out of the oven. One tip is to place the tin in the fridge after you've assembled your decorations to let them set in place securely.

For extra texture, adding nuts and seeds to the recipes is also a great idea to really make these your own. Sunflower, pumpkin and chia seeds are all amazing options to really give it some added crunch.
