A weekend in the life is Kidadl’s regular blog about the family lives of an amazing array of Kidadlers. Here, the mum behind online blog All Mums Talk, Aly Vy, shares what she gets up to and a few top tips.

Aly is a mum of two (with another on the way) and the woman behind the brilliant online community, All Mums Talk. She created her blog as a space to share her honest perspective about being a mum and hear the stories of others. We caught up with her to see what a weekend is like in her life.

WE WAKE UP AT...
8am! So I can’t really complain about the kids having an early start of the day, we’re lucky...However they do go to sleep rather late, I’m so not nailing a bedtime routine!!

BREAKFAST IS...
Messy! Loud! My favourite part of the week! Often with crafts, cereal and toys mixed all over the floor and lots of chats with Google Nest over weather forecast, jokes and cupcake recipes for the weekend - Lucas, my 5 year-old, likes to feel he’s in control of our weekend plans (although we hardly get to bake any cupcakes or wear the appropriate clothing for the weather forecast he’s actually taking notes on).

MY TOP TIPS FOR GETTING OUT WITH THE KIDS ARE...
1. Pack your bag/ car/ pockets with loooots of snacks!! Nothing spoils the mood more than a hungry child, not even a sleepy one!
2. Have a good app on your phone (like Kidadl) which allows you to plan events for them well in advance or check for last minute offers  - so much inspiration and deals on this!!
3. Just do it! Especially on those murky rainy days when the outdoors don’t seem so appealing, they find magic in that eventually ;)

A bit of rain doesn't stop the fun!

IF IT'S RAINING WE LIKE TO GO TO...
Sometimes we treat ourselves and go for an afternoon tea experience; we love The Langham London, they have an amazing afternoon tea for kids, but again, there are so many cool ideas on Kidadl on what to do when the skies aren’t too friendly - life saver app during half terms!!! When we feel brave enough (quite often) we'll jump in muddy puddles ;) Read books and watch old Disney movies on the projector all snuggled up in mummy’s and daddy’s bed.

IF IT'S TREAT TIME OR A SPECIAL OCCASION WE LIKE TOO..
Bake our own cake! Baking is becoming a major hobby in our kitchen! It’s a family affair thanks to my other half Justin (@alldadstalk) who finds the kitchen his happy place, he bakes most of our bread and pies these days and always gets the kids involved. We love to dress up and go out! Find a cool experience, sometimes I let them choose (easy to make a list with Kidadl experiences and have them pick).

Daddy's little girl!

ON OUR MUST SEE LONDON BUCKET LIST IS...
Theatre shows - working on going more often to the theatre! A few musicals I keep stalking on on the kidadl app, and Stick Man! Lucas keeps asking...We try to discover a new gem as often as we can (we love playing tourists).

IN MY BAG FOR A DAY OUT IS...
Snacks, snacks, snacks!! Lots of Aqua Wipes, my camera, my phone, lots of kids’ random toys I don’t know how they get in.

WHEN WE GET BACK FROM A DAY OUT I FEEL…
Tired but happy! Love watching them having fun, but not looking forward to cooking dinner for 4 after hours of fun in the park.

WHEN WE'RE HANGING AT HOME WE...
Turn the house upside down!! Mummy’s joy...

THE BEST PART OF MY WEEKEND IS...
The few moments I slow down when I get to stare at them and realise how grateful I am for them!

A moment of quiet

THE TOUGHEST PART OF MY WEEKEND IS...
The cleaning up part!

MY TOP PARENTING HACK IS...
Always have (healthy) snacks ready for them and yourself in your bag, buggy, drawers and lots of wipes! Kids are messy, especially the small ones!
